Hightown HotelLower Alt Road
See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
Small display of military history (probably due to close proximity to Altcar army training camp). Books for browsing. Open plan with some separation of room and features apparent from the former room plan (including front lounge and a separate dining room, but you can also eat in other rooms, and the lower room with pool table formerly the Captain's Bar when the pub was a Bass House in the 1980s). Popular with walkers and cyclists and those visiting a selection of real ale pubs easily accessible by train, as well as local people. The building was a 'Reform School' for Liverpool Education Authority in the early 20th Century.
